What is expressive therapy?

Expressive Therapy uses creative methods as an alternate way of accessing and representing inner experiences, feelings and emotions

Today, more than anytime in our lives, we are experiencing new stress levels, chartering unknown paths and navigating our lives as best we can, with little or no supports.

Through the use of various techniques, Expressive Therapy allows expression beyond the use of words and conversation. The process engages in creativity, which aims to aid discovery, focus, self-expression and resolution.

The focus is on the process of expression rather than the finished product. How one feels whilst making art, writing a poem, singing a tune, remembering an experience or expressing oneself, are the most important aspects.

Expressive Therapy helps you to find a way to a clearer mind and provides techniques to support personal change, self-expression, relaxation and clarity.

My Expressive Therapy Practice is dedicated to assisting, recognising and understanding inner thoughts and feelings, and finding ways to achieve a more harmonious way of being.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM AN EXPRESSIVE THERAPY SESSION

Together, we identify, develop and creatively explore  thoughts and emotions. Through the use of varied mediums such as imagery, collage, poetry, photography, role-play, music, movement, finding new ways of self-expression.

The use of creative techniques introduce a different way of exploring and expression.

Initially working together to find out what the client wishes to gain from the sessions, and then exploring further from there.

This provides an invitation to look at what has gone before and what to do with the information now. Through the method of visually or physically representing thoughts, new ways of understanding the inner self evolve. Expressive Therapy allows emotions and experiences to surface, enabling us to view and understand them, and choose how we want to negotiate them in the future.

These sessions provide a comfortable and supported environment to assist  in giving voice to experiences and feelings not easily expressed in words. Each session is individually tailored, providing the opportunity to find which creative medium helps  best to express oneself. Finding ways to relax and de-stress and make sense of confused thoughts, while expressing oneself through artistic and creative

techniques, enabling us to see things from a different perspective.

Engaging in creativity in this way can help focus and relax, leading to a clearer understanding and ability to make the most out of life.

Expressive Therapy provides an avenue  to nurture self-respect, confidence and change

Expressive Therapy sessions are a free flowing, explorative and therapeutic process. Focusing on inner experiences and feelings.
